Essential Duas for Umrah with Transliteration
One of the biggest anxieties first-time pilgrims mention is simple: what do I actually say, and when? The good news is that Umrah requires very few fixed supplications. Most of the time, your own words — in any language — are exactly what's wanted. But a handful of duas are tied to specific moments, and those are worth learning before you fly.
Below are the essential ones, each with the Arabic text, a transliteration to help with pronunciation, and the English meaning. If you can't read Arabic, the transliteration is there so you can still recite with confidence.
1. The Talbiyah — recited from ihram until tawaf
The moment you enter ihram, you begin the Talbiyah, and you repeat it throughout the journey to the Haram. It's the defining sound of the pilgrimage season.
Talbiyah
"Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, blessings and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner."

2. When beginning tawaf
Standing at the Black Stone corner, raise your right hand toward it and say Bismillah, Allahu Akbar ("In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest") — then begin your first circuit. That's it; no longer formula is required to start.
3. Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone
During each circuit, as you pass between the Yemeni Corner (Rukn al-Yamani) and the Black Stone, it is Sunnah to recite this Qur'anic supplication:
Rabbana atina
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil-akhirati hasanah, wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and shield us from the punishment of the Fire."

4. At Safa, before sa'i
When you reach the hill of Safa, face the Kaaba and recite: Inna as-safa wal-marwata min sha'a'irillah — "Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah" (Qur'an 2:158). Then raise your hands and make your own dua before starting the first lap.
5. Everything else: your own words
The liberating truth about Umrah duas: outside the few fixed supplications above, there is no prescribed text for tawaf or sa'i. The Prophet ﷺ made personal supplications in his own words — and so can you, in whatever language your heart speaks. Don't let anyone sell you anxiety about "the right dua for circuit four." There isn't one.
That said, many pilgrims like having a set of beautiful, authentic duas ready — for forgiveness, for family, for the Ummah — so they're never lost for words in the moments that matter. That's exactly what dua cards are for.
